Beck Update

I just wanted to let everyone who reads our blog to know how Beck is doing at this point.

This is his 6th day in the NICU and he is doing so well!
He started with so many different cords, I didn't know what went to what, but now he is just down to a few.
He has been completely off of the oxygen since yesterday morning, and he is keeping his oxygen level where it should be all on his own!
His Respiratory rate is also where it needs to be, hooray! Good numbers are between 20 and 70 and at first he was shooting up into the 110's, but not anymore.
He was able to start breastfeeding sunday morning, and he LOVES it! He now is completely off of the feeding tube, so when I am not there to feed him they give him a bottle. The nurses say he really likes to eat (takes after his mom, and dad, and sister)
The only thing keeping him in the hospital is the antibiotic he has been receiving since the beginning, which is a 7 day dose. Once he is finished with his last dose, he gets to go home....and that will be tomorrow night after 6:00 pm (if all else goes well).
Tonight I am staying overnight at the hospital in the NICU parent rooms, so I can feed him for every feeding until he leaves the hospital. This is one thing he must do well in order to be released, so wish both him and myself luck!
His Jaundice levels have significantly gone down, since he has had the lights over him (which he hated, because of the goggle things they made him wear) and he is at normal levels now!
Because he no longer has to be under the lights he is able to wear a little onesie now, and even a little beanie just for the cuteness factor! I think he loves not being naked, and enjoys the blanket as well.
So things are looking well, if all remains the same, he will be home very shortly. Because he has been in the NICU, he is more fragile than Paityn was coming home from the hospital (at least in my opinion), so we will be taking extra precautions with people holding him, and being around him often. I just want him to stay well, and never see the NICU again once he is out of there!
Thank you for all of your love and support!
P.S. On a lighter note:
He is quite the little "squirt"- and I think that may be his first nickname that I will call him. Whenever I change his diaper he decides it is the perfect time to poop, and this isn't solid poop, but liquid so it "squirts" everywhere, about 2 feet at one point!! This morning I went through at least 4 diapers before getting one shut before anything else escaped. He would poop when I would wipe, then I thought he was done, and then he started peeing, straight up in the air, then he started pooping again, and this kept happening....it gave me and his nurse a bit of a laugh!

Oh, I am so glad he is doing better, he has been in my prayers,he is so little to go through that. It sounds like he is reponding very well to his new world. It will great when you get him home, and your little family is comlete. If I was closer, I would bring you some meals(that is what my family does)to help out.

Oh Joy!! That made me laugh and cry at the same time! You are all in our prayers! Your little man is such a blessing and he knows how much he is loved already!
You're a trooper. Please let us know if we can do anything to help. Even if it's to have a play date w/Paityn and Taylor so mom and dad can have some alone time with Beck.
I understand the not letting people hold and touch him so we will stay clear for awhile but when you're up for visitors, let us know. We have a cute gift for you all.

Congratulations! He is so cute and I bet you were so happy to have him early! I'm glad he's doing so much better, it's always scary to have them in the NICU and hooked up to so many wires. Good luck with everything and let me know if you need Paityn to come over and play so you can sleep!

I'm so glad to hear Beck is doing so much better. I'm sure it'll be great to bring him home.

Don't worry about how careful you will be with him and all the extra precautions you will take after he comes home. My sister was premature and in an incubator for 10 days before coming home. She's the oldest and my Mom said she didn't let anyone see her for 6 weeks (-any outside family members or friends). Just recently a friend who is a doctor said that was a good thing she did (46 years ago), something about babies and developing resistance and the 6 week mark.

Funny story about the squirting and pooping - it's like he already knows what he is doing.

Joy Welcome to the world of little boys. They are wonderful and you learn to not be too surprosed at anything they do. Gotta love em though. I had a good laugh too as I have experienced that very thing as well.

So glad to hear things are getting better. By the sound of it he is coming home tomorrow....Excellent.
My son was a bit of a squirter too....But the peeing in the eye went on for some time.
We learned to pull the front of the "nappy" down. The put it back to catch it. Seem ed like it was the rush of fresh air that got him "going". I am so glad he sint going to read this...he just turned 36...ha!!
Keep us posted.

Congratulations on your wonderful son Joy. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing such a special time. I really enjoy reading your blog but I don't usually comment. This time though, I just really wanted to give you my good wishes and to say I hope all is going well with Beck and that you're all safely home together now.

Glad to hear little Beck is doing much better!

The poop story literally made me laugh out loud. Hope you don't mind since it was at your expense. It was so funny!

He's a good size baby. Hope all goes well and he never has to see the Nic-U again.

Congrats!

And oh yeah, I never had a nephew pee on me... my mom told me a trick... put a dry wash cloth over him immediately upon removing diaper. It's the (colder) air usually that makes them pee soon as you take the diaper off. Then you're in the clear.
