Baby Monitor

We just bought THE BEST baby monitor, The Q-See and I have to tell you about it. Most digital, video, wireless, monitors I have come across are about $199.99, and less expensive ones for 149.99. So...I figured we would never buy one. However, I really have wanted one and I saw one for $99 dollars at Costco last weekend. I looked online and the cheapest I could find it for was about $160, so needless to say, we went back tonight and purchased it, and at this very moment I am watching Paityn sleeping in her big girl bed. It is wonderful, I love being able to spy...and check on my child's well being. It will be even more useful when Beck arrives into this world. If you need a baby monitor anytime soon, check out the Q-See at Costco. I am sure they will sell out quickly, and they never keep items in stock for long.

Now... an update on Paityn's sleeping arrangement. Let's just say it hasn't been going so well, and I hope only time will make things all better. The first night she went down fine, but woke up in the night with a scream of panic. Geoff slept with her the rest of the night, for the most part. The next day...NAPTIME. This wasn't so fun, and she only napped in bed with me. That night, bedtime was a disaster. Paityn used her manipulating behavior tactic to get out of going to bed. That would be sticking her finger down her throat, and actually throwing up. Yuck. She does this almost every other time she is put down to sleep. At least for the last several weeks. Not fun, and how can that be enjoyable for her? So...we went in her room, found her standing at the door, covered in vomit. We cleaned her up, cleaned her floor up, and then tried to put her down again. I finally had to lay by her side until she fell asleep, and luckily she slept through the night. Geoff went in to get her this morning and she was laying in her bed, reading a book, how cute!!!
So, today. Sleeping has pretty much been out of the question. No nap time. I put her in her room twice and after listening to her talk, cry, scream, and have moments of silence, she never took a nap ALL DAY LONG! Well, tonight she cried and cried again so Geoff went to lay next to her until she fell asleep, which luckily was fairly quickly. Now, I hope only a couple more days of this, because I do not think I can handle much more!
P.S. I will be talking to the pediatrician about Paityn's strange behavior of self-induced vomiting at the age of 1!!!

Now this is sounding more like the way things should be! THANK GOODNESS YOU'RE NORMAL! I remember nap time is the WORST! It does some how get better. (It may take a good few years!) But hang in there! GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks for the heads-up on the video monitor. I've wanted one since I had Marshall. I think it'll be helpful when we sleep train Coen. It's the worst when you can't go in there to see what they're doing but you need to for their safety (and your sanity.)

Good luck with the transition to the bed. But, just a warning. When we switched Marshall, we started laying with him to get him down and now, a year and a half later, he still won't go to sleep if we're not laying with him. Plus, if they wake up at night they expect you to still be there since that's where you were when they fell asleep the first time. Then, they won't get themselves back to sleep on their own. John still has to go in with Marshall at 4 in the morning sometimes to go back to sleep. And, once we said goodbye to the crib, naptimes were over. If I were you, I'd just get a second crib for the baby. Or maybe once you get Paityn a toddler bed with a rail she'll feel more "at home" in it. Whatever you do, good luck! (And I don't mean to offer unsolicited advice, sorry.)

Oh my, you are having a bad time of it. When I had my twins, we moved our daughter into a big girl bed, and made a big deal out of her picking our a lamp, or a bedspread, with her knowing the only way she could use it was to sleep in the bed. Of course, she was a particularly well behaved child, which did not prepare me for the wild twosome boys I got. Ha Ha.
I have never heard of a baby of one sticking her finger down her throat, but Paityn seems to be one very smart little girl. I do wish you luck, it is good that you started this BEFORE little Beck comes. I wish you much luck, and hopefully alot of sleep.

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with Paityn. Maybe other Mothers can give you some good advice to help her sleep better. That's good you are going to talk to the pediatrician, and maybe she can give you some advice too. You would think it wouldn't be fun for her to throw up.

When I was really little my sister and I shared a room and then my parents added on another room to the house, so we were able to have our own bedrooms. My Mom said she would find me asleep on the floor in front of my older sister's room every night, so she finally gave up and put us together in one room - until we moved when I was 6 years old.

Get something called the Bach Rescue Remedy. (It's found at holistic stores or Whole Foods.) Give her a drop or two before bedtime/naptime. It will help her calm down.
Also with the vomiting... with a smile just clean her up and say "No" and put her back to bed. Use love and logic techniques that feels right for you. Don't make a huge deal out of it or she'll keep doing it.

That does not sound like fun at all. Im so sorry. Kate has problems sleeping at night too. Last night she woke me up at least five times. It gets EXHAUSTING! Hopefully its just a phase!

That is no fun at all. I'm so sorry. Kate hasn't been sleeping very well at night either. Last night she woke up at least five times. It gets exhausting! I hope it's a quick phase Paityn is going through.
