Vacuums

Since we have been married, Geoff and I have gone through a few vacuums. Growing up, I remember the same vacuum for years and years. They are supposed to last, right? Well, when we moved into our home, we decided to purchase an inexpensive Eureka vacuum. It would get the job done, and we didn't have to spend alot of money. After a few months, the vacuum began to suffer, so we purchased an Electrolux. This was a top of the line vacuum, and worked wonders, as it was so quiet at the same time. Because of the large price tag, we thought we would return it and buy one on ebay for less money. This never happened, so for a long time we had NO vacuum. I would borrow one, from where I nannied, or a neighbor. That got old. Tracy, my old employer, offered me one of hers for free, since she knew I needed my own. She only had 3 anyway! Well, that vacuum lasted us about a year, until this past saturday, it started to smell, and chug along slowly. With our current budget, a nice vacuum was out of reach in my mind. That electrolux we had so long ago seemed impossible to ever get my hands on again!

Well, today...Geoff came home with a suprise. He was given a bonus at work, and he could spend $500. The practical guy that he is thought of the vacuum situation, and purchased a brand new ORECK vacuum, 10 year warranty, and bonus stair vacuum as well. I was in heaven, and I still am. I had to use it right away, and it works wonders. For having vacuumed on Saturday, our home had A TON of crumbs in the carpet. Maybe that vacuum hadn't been working for a while!
So, if you are in need of an amazing vacuum, the Oreck is the way to go. It is VERY lightweight, and efficient. I am in love once again!

The Oreck doesn't leave a dusty haze in the air does it?my electrolux did so I removed my carpets and put wooden floors in instead.

Hi,
I envy you having an Oreck hoover! I've heard that they are the best.

I clean people's houses as my job & some of the hoovers I've used over the years have been awful. One house I cleaned had an Oreck & it was fantastic!!!

I live in hope that I'll be able to buy one one day!!!

They DON'T make them like they used to. I used to sell them in our Store and the Electrolux was always the best.

Mum has a vaccum since.. wait for it 1957!! it STILL picks up as good as or better than the Dyson cyclone thingy we have downstairs.

Good Ol'boy isn't he? :0)

Take care xx Phebes

I have wondered about Orek for years. They are expensive, but supposed to be really good.
I need one to pick up hairs from a Golden Retriever who seems to shed year round. AND...
It cant be too heavy because of my Fibro.
What do you think Joy, should I go for it, an which one.
Glad you finally hit the spot....

My best friend back in Utah had an Oreck (I think they're related to the guy who makes them). Anyway, I borrowed it a few times and even though I used my own vacuum often and my carpet generally looked clean it was AMAZING how much else that thing got up. I'm jealous you have your very own! Good for you.

Tarryn- no dusty haze that I can see!
Pen- it is WELL worth it. I used it when I used to nanny and LOVED it, and once again love it. I can carry it up and down the stairs with ease, it is extremely lightweight. Go for it, it IS worth the money, if you have it!

Good to know since my vacuum is on it's last leg, or wheel, or cord. Whatever the case, I do remember having the same vacuum growing up for several, several years. What happened to the good old days? With babies on the way, who wants to spend money on a vacuum! Oh well! Lucky for your hubby, he got a bonus.

I had an electrolux for 20 years, and it finally gave out, and My husband, in his wisdom(not) bought a rebuilt one, big mistake, it lasted a year. I am now on a cheap Hoover, and I envy you that Oreck. That is great, with that little one, and the one to come, you will need a good vac, to follow them around.

Good to know. Our sucks! Or doesn't, rather. If you know what I mean. They sure don't make them like they used to. When I clogged ours with pine needles last Christmas we borrowed my in-laws that they bought at a garage sale in the '80s and it cleaned my floor so well I didn't know what I'd been missing. I'll have to start saving my $$$ for a nice one.

thanks for the heads up. I think I might go for one. Ours has that fusty smell about it now. It is very noisy and pretty heavy to push and carry. If it picks up the dog hair that would be wonderful. One last question, what model is yours please, might as well stick with what I know. thanks.

Pen- the model we have is the one pictured in black.
It is the Oreck XL Black Ultra Intellashield. It comes with a separate small vacuum thing for stairs and couch, and such. I'm sure prices vary, but it was $499.99 US dollars.
Hope that helps!
