As you can see, I never went private. It is honestly a lot of hard work to do that, and I guess I am just really trusting of all of my readers (except for that one lady)! If you want to find out how popular you are, just say you are going private and you will get more comments than imaginable. I got so many comments, and that didn't include any family that I would have added!
So, to those who read my blog, and enjoy the pictures, THANK YOU!
I really wish you would all comment a little more, give my any advice, thoughts, etc. Just don't say things if you can't back them up (head band lady)!
Since you all follow the life of my little family, you should know that Paityn's birthday is only a month and a half away. That is crazy to think about. I have started planning the party already, and it is going to be so fun. Am I crazy?
What I would like from my readers is for you to give me good ideas of what presents to get Paityn. I have a mom and Grandma who need ideas, and I can't really think of any ideas to give them, and of course Paityn is keeping her ideas a secret!
PLEASE, suggestions of any sort: Toys, Gear, Books, Videos, Clothes....
I am sure, she will open her presents and just want to play with the paper, but still...I want her to have the option of having toys to play with! This is one toy that I really do like, it is the CarePlay Riding Puppy. She can stand and push it, or sit and ride it, and it is simple, safe and cute!

Since I have never done the baby Girl thing personally...I would suggest anything that multi tasks...something to ride on..Something to push...maybe one of those little tiny strollers and a cute baby doll to go with it...any toy that has balls that they can put in and take out is a hit...other than that..anything will do...they really are not to picky at that age...yet, most times, you are right...the paper and wrapping is the hit. Once that is thrown away though, the toys can be the fun thing! I will be asking this same question is a couple of months also..it is not fair that these cute babies just grow to darn quick!
I don't know about little girls, but as a unisex item, stimulating videos and books will be good. She is getting older and the world is becoming more and more interesting to her. By learning about what goes on around her will make her a smart little girl.
Hi Joy,
One thing I started with my daughter was getting her a snow globe every year (she is 12 now). She now has a pretty collection which we keep in a beautiful glass front doll cabinet(special glass for a child's room) in her bedroom. Aside from toys, you may want to start some sort of collection so she has something timeless to look back on when the toys are broken, clothes are outgrown, etc.
Also, I love the headbands. Enjoy it while you can, eventually they protest!. I also love the barrettes you have been using...I think they draw your eye to her pretty face as opposed to noticing the headband first.
Happy planning!

I know I have little boys but I try to make sure every brithday Is filled with presents that are stimulating. BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS. And don't just get her books that are age appropriate. By one I was alrady reading chapter books to the boys because since they were 1 month old I read to them regulary. If you read enough to them they will sit and listen so its just logical to challenege them with more detailed books. Puzzles are also great and even art supplies. shes old enough to start doodleing. One thing that I would really suggest is that from every year on from now buy her one thing that is special to you. I had hand made wooden toy boxes made for my boys at age 1. the next year it was rocking horses, and the next I hand made them quilts. Everyone of the gifts is something they can hand down to their kids so its a special tradition we do for every birthday.
Well, When Charlotte turned one (shes going on two now) she had such a lot of toys and books coming from everywhere. We were asked to get some special toys her mom and dad really liked from the Early learning centre, they are little people and they go in farms playgrounds houses, you get the picture. So it was kind of out of our hands.
BUT for her Christening 2 months before. Well I like to be a bit different, so John and I got a rose for the garden, a yellow one, called..."Charlotte". Also I made a family book for her a scrapbook (I have never done this sort of thing) filled it with 4 generation sheets, and lots of pictures.
She had no idea what all the things were at less than one anyway so I hope these things might be "something to keep". Oh the rose survied the winter....Its yellow BTW. My daughters, her aunts got her a sundial which has bunnies and squirrels and stuff around the base, and they had a plaque engraved with the details of her "day". She calls it rabbit.
On the actual birthday her 5 year old cousin James just ripped into the unwrapping and Charlotte watched. It didnt make much difference to her. It would now though. She wouldnt stand for that.
I dont suppose this really helps does it....sorry.
On the going private, its good you didnt, and I am thinking of threatening the same as I dont get any traffic on my blog.....I cant understand it, most of the pictures are of Charlotte not me.....Maybe its the music..Ha!
I dont know going private was hassle though. I have been shut out of a lot of blogs, its a shame.
Hi Joy,
I enjoy reading what you have to say about Paityn, and all the cute pictures. It's been fun watching her grow up.
I've been an Osmond fan for MANY years, and just enjoy your webpage here. I was not going to say anything because I didn't want to make you think I was being nosey. (AND I LOVE THOSE HEADBANDS!)
I hope ya'll had a great trip. As far as her birthday goes, just some good Christian videos for little ones. Puzzles are great! They learn fast how to do it themselves.
Leapfrog items are good as she gets older.

Wow what to get that cutie of a girl you have. Well the other people have suggested books-at this age any book will do and it may become her favorite one too and you may be reading it over and over. Those hard cover ones that are small are good. Also ones that deal with colors, alphabet and shapes are good to(I am a teacher). I also bet at this age she would love to have stacking items too(mine are much older now-so it is hard to remember). I bought my great nephew duplo blocks(large legos) he loves them. Girls like legos too. A babydoll and stroller would be good too since she will be wlaking soon. Well have a great weekend and enjoy her everyday while she is so small.
Take care
Lori M
I am afraid that my suggestion is not about the new age toys and books, but it is something my kids, and my grandkids loved. I just gave my great nephew one, and is going crazy with it. It is simple red wagon. I do not care if you are a boy or a girl, they love them. I got the ones with the removable side on it. You can pull them on it, or take the sides off and let them load and unload it. I hope she had a great birthday, but just being with her family will be good.
I meant to say, I hope she has a good birthday, not had a good birthday, sheesh, this is not my day. I can't say anything right today. lol
I wish I could get feedback on my blog like you do!
Anyway, I've been thinking of some ideas and watching my kids today at the toy store. 1 year olds are hard I think. At age 1 I had one son love The Wiggles and Stanley; the other fell for Blue's Clues. So for video's, I'd pick out a variety just to see what will make her eyes glow over the coming year. It's a fascinating year coming up too!
The Fisher Price beads and other toddler toys only entertained mildly for us.
Sand toys to use with a "rice box" (think sandbox here, but inside) were big hits for me. (Pretty much anything messy.)
Art supplies have always been big. Oh, and since you like photography, Paityn may develop a fondess for camera's too, so a toy camera may be a huge hit!
Ride on toys and bouncing balls also big hits.
Hope my two cents helps. :)
also adding, the little popping push along or musical one has also been a huge hit here.
I use to work at TRU, (and might be going back there) so here's my best advice. Go to your local Toys R US, and register. This will give your family ideas of things you like and it will let them know if it has been purchased. (Your address is NOT given out on the registry print out. It is used in the company to send you birthday coupons etc.) It also means if you get duplicates you can return them even without a recept IF they give the cashier a phone number or pay my a traceable method. Then go to the juvenile section... there are lots of different toys to choose from. Pick anything from 12+ months. The Push and Ride buggy is a great item. When they are older you can take the handle off and they can use foot power. (Cozy Coupe would be better next year.) I would recommend the red/blue one because unles you are sure you are only having girls, you want something you can reuse and our culture frowns on pink for little boys. And the red/blue one is unisex. The Bounce and Spin Zebra (Fisher Price) is a hot seller too. We sold them like hot cakes at christmas. Anything with blocks and dropping them into the toy will be loved. The sand and water table.. if you can find it on clearance, get it for next summer. (the one by little tikes, don't go for an off brand.) The Fisher price Farm set or any of those toys. I forget the name of this one.. but it's almost like a mini-vacumn but it popps or plays music when they push it around. (Might be a better christmas present though.) Try to get one or two things in the pink theme, but otherwise stick to the bold primary colors. For many it's hard since most these have the regular version and then the pink themed ones.
If you need any hints on what's going to be hot for xmas, I can try to give you the heads up too. Just email me and I'll be happy to help.
oh.. fyi..if they purchase USING the gift registery barcodes, it acts as the receipt too.
Leapfrog was my FAVORITE! They have a fabulous pushing walker that sings that finally got my late walking kids to walk! I also love all the leapfrog items they have for the fridge. The ABC magnets and animals are GREAT (you will find yourself singing them ALL the time...) Good luck! Oh she must also have a baby doll and stroller, come on she's a little girl!!!
Great photos !! At that age my son loved building blocks. We would make a huge tower from Lego and he loved it when it either fell over or he knocked it over. Its great for little fingers learning to manipulate things
I was going to suggest Lego too , though not sure if you call it that in the States , oh and of course dolls too , though I had a boy only , but my nieces loved their dolls !
When my daughter was born, I started giving her porcelin dolls. She is now 15, so including the one at birth to now she has 16 dolls. I have 3 more left to give her. I bought a set that went from birth-18 years of age. She has them displayed in her room.
I hope this helps :)

I just love the Roller Wooden Push Toy from Oompa. It is really quiet and makes the cutest sound from the wooden balls as they hit the edges of the wheels. I gave it to the little girl I nanny for her first BDay. It's smaller than you think it's gong to be, but so worth it! My son had the annoying fisher price popper one and I think I'll get this for our next one.
So, I just read everyone else's comments- stay away from Toys R Us if you don't want a million electronic things! And I don't think Leapfrog is all that great.
I love the doll/stroller idea! Haba makes this Doll Pram Flowers one that I just love!!! It's on Moolka's website.
I also love wheely bugs for a ride on toy. You can get them at Babinski's in Foothill Village or online at Genius Babies. They are pretty small and just the right size for a one year old.
Also, a great toy store is The Red Balloon. Double check the address, but I think there is one on 9400 S and 700 E.
Let me know if you want more suggestions or hop over to my toy blog:

I did some reviews for friends kids turning 9 and 18 months so check those out.
Oh, one more. I liked the idea of a camera since you're a photographer. There's a super cute wooden one at Three Sisters Toys called Wooden Pretend Play Camera.
