Paityn Joy Osmond 8-26-07 7lbs 7 oz. 20 inches
SHE IS HERE...a little early and I am very happy about that. 2 1/2 weeks early actually. What an adventure already. My water broke in bed at 2:15 am on sunday morning, scary because I didnt know what happened and we were definately not prepared. I had had a doctors appt on friday morning and the doctor said I was not dilating at all and he probably wouldnt even be able to induce me on sept. 7th, which was the plan. Little did he know how ready Paityn was to be born, and same with me!! So...we franticly got dressed, threw a few things in the car and off we went to the hospital. I was admitted about 3 am I guess and started contractions and dilating. I suffered through the first many and then decided it was time for the EPIDURAL. it was not bad at all, except for the exciting electrical wave that ran through my leg when the doctor hit a nerve. that was a feeling like no other, very weird. I dont know what the fear of getting one is, the only pain really was the needle that numbed the area before he stuck it in my back. I dilated quickly for a first time mom in labor, and about 9:15 I was ready to start pushing. I didnt have any pain because of the wonderful meds so all I could feel was the pressure each time a contraction came on. Geoff and the nurse would then lift a leg each and I had to breath in, hold my breath for 10 seconds and then breath out while pushing, and I had no idea how hard I was pushing because I was loving the epidural. Well I had to push off and on for two hours and at 11:03 we had a little baby in our arms. Geoff cut her umbilical cord and then they handed her to me. What an amazing time it all was and I was really happy that it wasn't like the pain anyone has ever described, it was so much easier. I didnt have a problem with tearing or being cut either... no epesiotomy, i think just a stage one tear so only 2 stitches which makes healing much more pleasant. So...that was the way it all went. I just got home from the hospital today around noon and napped with Paityn laying next to me until it was time to nurse. The first few times of that were not fun, we both wanted to cry, she did all the crying though, and I just stayed strong. Now she is doing so much better in that area, and eating well. Lucky we had so many wonderful nurses to help out. Now reality hits, I have to do it all on my own, no nurse to hand her over to!!! (Scariest part I think). It was so nice to be in the hospital and have so much help and actually get a tiny bit of sleep when she went into the nursery between being fed. The last night my best friend danielle stayed the night with me, and I know it wasn't enjoyable, we maybe slept a total of 4 hours because the breasfeeding wasn't going so well. What a perfect friend she is, and she will be with me in Utah for the week to help out and just enjoy her company.Geoff is an amazing, wonderful, cute daddy!!! He got to bathe her in the hospital and even changed her first poopy diaper...the first one he had ever changed in his life!! I love him so much more now that I see how good he is with a baby in his arms, and not just A baby, but OUR baby. That is hard to comprehend...still to this day. She is really our baby? We created this beautiful little girl? So crazy! I know the next little while is going to be a struggle to get used to, so keep me in your thoughts and prayers while I learn how to manage being me, and being a mom....and getting NO sleep!OH, and I guess I should mention that it has been so nice having my parents here, and all of geoff's family, as well as so many friends who have stopped by to meet Paityn. funny story if you want to read on...my mom was in town from friday august 17th until saturday August 25th and she and my grandma drove home on saturday...all the way to Claremont CA, about an 11 hour drive. She had joked at my baby shower the previous saturday that she would probably end up getting home just to turn back around and drive back for the birth. I told her there was no way because she still had a while to go before she was due!!! Well, she was exactly right. They got home saturday evening, probably around 6 or so, and I called her at 2 in the morning to tell her to get ready because I was on my way to the hospital. So, she got a little sleep and then her and my dad drove up here, and got here sunday evening after Paityn had been born. So hopefully no more suprises for them. What great parents I have been raised by, and what great grandparents they are going to be for the first time!!!!Another story...will be in another blog, but saturday was a crazy day as well. Not for me, but for Geoff. He was in the hospital all that day after running a marathon, so read the marathon blog if you would like once it is written!!!Now, I am sure you want to see pictures, so I will post a few of the hundreds that were taken by everyone!!!

Dear Joy and Geoff,

You must both be absolutely OVER THE MOON! Paityn is indeed a BEAUTIFUL baby and I share in your excitement and joy over her arrival.

Wishing you some sleep, ...eventually it will come. Take every advantage of the help on hand this first week and revel in the miracle in your arms.

Much love to you always,

Great-Aunt Marcy
(I was always a great aunt ...now I'm a Great-Aunt!)

Congratulations big sister! She's a really cute baby and I can't wait to see her in person, hopefully in November. Knowing how good you are at being a teacher to kids maybe she'll be walking and talking by then! Hi Geoff!

Paityn -

Welcome to the family! Since you are new here, I am going to give you a few pointers on how to survive:

1. Tell everyone that you can't sing, even though you probably can. This will get you out of being "invited" to sing at weddings, firesides, sacrament meetings and Bar Mitzvahs.

2. If your dad and mom won't get it for you, Uncle Matt will.

3. Stay away from Jacob.

Love,
Uncle Matt
